Urso named ‘Teacher of the Year’ at SDSU banquet

Phil Urso, originally from Scurry, now in Brookings, SD, was honored during the CAFES Prexy Council Ag Week banquet last week at South Dakota State University. The banquet is part of a week full of student-run events celebrating all things agriculture. Urso was named CAFES Teacher of the Year for his dedication to students in and out of the classroom.

Held on March 24, 2026, at the CISD Administration Building, the event brought together secondary principals and supervisors to collaborate, innovate, and strengthen the future of school leadership.

Kemp ISD celebrates Academy graduates

Kemp ISD recently celebrated two Kemp Academy graduates on Jan. 29 and Jan. 30 with the honoring of Melissa Arellano and Diego Trevino-Rodriguez. Melissa graduated from Kemp Academy today, and she did it through focus, grit and a whole lot of determination. She worked hard to get the job done, and now she’s setting her sights on enrolling in a Vet Tech program to pursue a career working with animals. Diego graduated from Kemp Academy and moved straight into his new career in the sheet metal industry. He’s already hard at work learning a skilled trade in welding and machine work, building a strong foundation for his future.

Kaufman FFA LDE teams advance to Area

Kaufman’s FFA had multiple LDE teams advanced to Area Dec. 1. The FFA teams took fourth in Senior Quiz, third place in Senior Ag Skills, fourth in Greenhand Ag Skills and 11th place in Chapter Conducting. Jaela Jones also took second place out of 55 people for Senior Quiz Individual.

North Forney band makes program history

The North Forney High School Pride of Falcon Nation Band made history two weeks ago by advancing to the UIL Area C 6A Finals for the first time in program history. In their landmark finals’ performance, the Pride of Falcon Nation placed sixth overall—just two spots away from qualifying for the UIL State Marching Contest.
