KCSO to host 2025 Citizens Academy on Aug. 5

The event promotes protecting their most vulnerable citizens, striving for justice for all victims of crime and making Kaufman County a safer place to live. It will help visitors and attendees to learn more about Kaufman County law enforcement and the judicial process.

Lone Star CASA started their Clays for CASA event a decade ago, with a few goals in mind—provide a way for participants to hone their skills… right before dove season kicks off—and help support area children. Win-win, right? Clays for CASA is held at the Texas Gun Ranch in Terrell, and this year’s event takes place on August 15. All the proceeds benefit Lone Star CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) to ensure that 100 percent of children who have experienced abuse and neglect in Rockwall and Kaufman Counties have an advocate by their side.

One person is still in critical condition after a wreck that killed five people just outside Terrell on Interstate 20 on June 28. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Alexis Gonzalez-Companioni fell asleep at the wheel, causing his semitruck to plow into stopped traffic on the highway, causing a chain reaction.
