County hears audit report

During the July 8 Kaufman County Commissioners Court session, commissioners accepted an independent audit report from Pattillo, Brown and Hill, LLP., presented by Audit Supervisor Travis Rogers. Rogers told the court that the firm offered an unmodified or clean opinion of the fiscal year 2024 audit. Rogers also informed the court that $14.5 million was currently in the general fund and is deemed undesignated or unassigned as it is not marked for specific spending. The county had $81 million in total expenditures during the fiscal year and currently has two and half months of reserve funds in their accounts.

Kemp annexes property into city limits

During the July 8 regular city council meeting the Kemp City Council approved Ordinance No. 25-08 annexing the 40.95 acre tract of land and the 0.952 acre tract of land into the city limits. Mayor Christi Neal explained that the properties were both owned by the Economic Development Corporation and should be annexed into the city limits before any future development begins. The council’s unanimous decision was made following two public hearings regarding the properties.

During last night’s meeting, the Trinity Valley Community College Board of Trustees proudly approved the designation of TVCC as a Purple Heart College. This prestigious honor recognizes institutions that go above and beyond in supporting military-affiliated students—especially those who have made profound personal sacrifices in service to our country.

HUNTING ‘NEW’ LAND

This is the time of year when many hunters are moving from one hunting lease to a new one. There are many reasons for changing hunting leases and most veteran hunters understand that unless they own the land they hunt on, there is a good chance they will one day have to leave their hunting grounds and look for another.

Kaufman PD warns of catalytic converter thefts

By Bodey Cooper news@kaufmanherald.com Kaufman Police Department recently warned citizens of Kaufman, as well as Kaufman County residents to be aware of catalytic converter thefts. A catalytic converter is a key component of a vehicle’s exhaust system that helps reduce harmful emissions from gasoline or diesel engines.

Kaufman FFA members attend business session

Kaufman FFA members attended the Business Session, where seven of their students got to participate as Voting Delegates. They attended the Second General Session and listened to all of the new FFA State Officers give their officer candidate speeches. Kaufman’s very own Emily Palacios received her Lone Star Degree and was surprised by two friends from the 2025 KHS Class, Eileen Faz and Julia Mauldin, who attended to watch her receive the award.
