news@kaufmanherald.com The Kaufman Lady Lions basketball team announced All-District honors and awards for the 2025-26 season. The Lady Lions had seven players named Academic All-district for the season, including Kaylee Wrenn, Kiersten Thoas, Kayden Lidy, Avie Clickner, Tia Morrow, Itzel Garcia and Morgan Martin.
Kemp boys’ basketball honored their seniors that are part of the team on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Monica Oldenkamp, the dedicated Student Athletic Trainer, always working behind the scenes to support and care for our athletes. Ettore Schiapparoli is a hardworking player and foreign exchange student from Italy, who has brought talent, heart and Yellowjacket pride to Kemp High School. Both students were honored before their game on Feb. 17.
The Crandall Lady Pirates won two playoff games in the span of three days last week as they took home the Bi-district and Area titles with wins over Waco and Mesquite Poteet. The Lady Pirates picked up a win over the Waco Lady Lions on Feb. 17 with a 63-35 victory before heading to Forney to take on the Mesquite Poteet Lady Pirates on Friday, Feb. 20. Crandall took down Mesquite Poteet by a final score of 49-31 to move on to the Regional round of the UIL State basketball playoffs.
Kemp hosted the Anthony Miller Powerlifitng Invitational on Jan. 31 with Kemp athletes showing up and showing out at the meet. The Yellowjackets had multiple medal winners, including first-place medalists Maddox Henderson, Bree Hall, Lillie Moore, Lanceden Surratt and Abel Gallegos. Second-place finishers were June Easter and the boys’ team as a whole. Third-place finishers were Asa Buchanan and Katalina Mendoza.
Kemp girls’ basketball honored three of their seniors before their game on Friday, Feb. 6 at home. The Kemp Lady Yellowjackets honored their senior players Makayla Miller (#23), Miranda Limon (#11) and Team Manager Sara Sanchez-Gutierrez.
