Joint, primary elections conclude

The 2026 May joint election and primary election came to an end after election day on Saturday, May 2 in Kaufman County with a single runoff in the Forney City Council race. In the City of Forney general election, Sarah Salgado and Joseph “Yaz” Yazdanpanahi are headed to a runoff next month for Place 4 on the council while Greg Helm took Place 6 on the council.

May is a unique month for those of us that love spending time in the woods or on the water. Spring turkey season is still underway in much of Texas during the first half of the month, but spring squirrel season is open also in the counties of eastern Texas and in the remainder of the state, squirrel season is year around.

KHS Wind Ensemble welcomes Jazz legend

The air in Kaufman was electric on May 1 as the KHS Wind Ensemble welcomed a true musical titan to the stage: the world-renowned clarinetist, Dr. Doreen Ketchens. Known globally as “Lady Louis” for her virtuosic skill and soul-stirring performances, Ketchens joined the ensemble for a concert that residents won’t soon forget.

Kaufman County seeks indigent defense assistant funds

Kaufman County Commissioners' Court voted May 5 to apply to the Texas Indigent Defense Commission in Austin to fund an assistant indigent defense coordinator position, which Project Manager Pam Corder said is needed because 'as our county grew,' that department 'was falling behind' because only one person was managing it.

May 16: Bee Happy, along with the 2026 Kaufman County Leadership Group is hosting a Pickleball Classic to raise money for a new van by hosting a pickleball tournament on Saturday, May 16 at 10 a.m. at Ben Gill Park in Terrell.

The Kaufman High School Class of 1966 got together at Jessie’s Fajitas and Ritas on Friday, May 1 in downtown Kaufman to celebrate their 60th high school reunion. The group had a wonderful time at lunch visiting with former classmates, while enjoying their meals out on the Kaufman square.
