Kaufman County keeps consistent tax rate

news@kaufmanherald.com Kaufman County Commissioners approved keeping the total tax rate the same and approving the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year budget at their regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

JAPAN SURRENDERS TO END WORLD WAR II

After the atomic bomb strikes on Japan in early August 1945, followed by Russian forces attacking the Japanese army in Manchuria, the Japanese government, finally, signaled its willingness to surrender on Aug. 10, 1945. On Aug. 14, the Emperor of Japan announced the intention to surrender via a radio broadcast to the country on Aug. 15. A formal surrender ceremony was held on the deck of the battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay on Sept. 2, 1945. 10th Annual Clays for CASA Clay Shoot raises essential funds for Lone Star CASA

Clays for CASA, held at the Texas Gun Ranch in Terrell on August 15, 2025, was an outstanding success. The event brought together community supporters and clay shoot enthusiasts, all united in the common goal of supporting Lone Star CASA’s mission. All of the proceeds from this event benefit Lone Star CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) to ensure that 100 percent of children who have experienced abuse and neglect in Rockwall and Kaufman Counties have an advocate by their side.

Culinary program providing cooking, life skills

news@kaufmanherald.com The Kaufman High School culinary program is setting students up for real work experience and life experience as well. Not only does Kaufman HS have a modern culinary program, but they also have a barbecue club and competition team that competes and even provides at a local level.
