Kaufman’s DJ Gaddis plays in All-Star Game

Kaufman Lions basketball player DJ Gaddis played in the Azalea Orthopedics All-Star Basketball Game this past weekend. He scored 20 points and had seven rebounds and hit six three-pointers. His team won by three, and Gaddis was named MVP of the game.

Wildcats win Bi-district championship

news@kaufmanherald.com The Scurry-Rosser Wildcats baseball team took down the Clifton Cubs in the Bi-district round of the playoffs on Wednesday, April 29. The Wildcats swept the first two games of their best-ofthree playoff series over the Cubs.

The modern-day eastern turkey restocking program that began back in 1979 has been successful in some areas and somewhat of a bust in others. In earlier days, pen raised domestic birds were introduced in the wild without success. Biologists learned that live trapped wild birds were the key to success and by 2003 about 7,000 birds were released in east Texas, since the initial stockings, super stockings in areas with prime habitat seems to be succeeding.

Crandall ISD names Dr. Zelkovich as HMS Principal

Crandall ISD announced at a special board meeting on Tuesday, April 28 that Dr. Jessica Zelkovich will be the new Principal of Heartland Middle School for the 2026-27 school year. Dr. Zelkovich currently serves as an assistant principal at Heartland Middle School.

Kaufman County to seek state aid to fix City Lake dam

KAUFMAN- Kaufman County Commissioners' Court voted April 28 to approve an application for state aid to repair the dam at Cedar Creek Site 60, better known as Kaufman City Lake. Owen Cantrell, a district technician with the Kaufman-Van Zandt-Rockwall Soil and Water Conservation District, said the conservation district applied for a federally funded rehabilitation project in June 2024, which the commissioners' court signed off on, he added.
