By Bodey Cooper news@kaufmanherald.com The Scurry-Rosser Wildcats varsity baseball team topped the Athens Hornets at home on Saturday, March 28. The Wildcats had a good start to the contest as they came home victorious, 13-5, over the Hornets.

The Kaufman Lions baseball team fell to the Red Oak Hawks on the road on Friday, March 27. Back-to-back tough innings for the Lions in the third and fourth inning cost Kaufman as they fell to Red Oak, 9-1.

How about going on a ‘pork procurement’ hunt with me in this week’s column? I’ve been a devout hog hunter for much of my adult life. My adrenaline begins to pump when I am setting over a corn feeder at night and spot hogs through my thermal scope.

March 28: Texas A&M Agrilife Extension is offering a salsa-making class on March 28, 2026. The class is at the Kaufman County Extension Office, located at 2471 N State Hwy 34 in Kaufman, from 9 a.m.

Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court voted March 24 to start the bid process to address repairing bridge scouring occurring on a structure along County Road 4036, which is just west of Kemp. Kaufman County Precinct 4 Commissioner Tommy Moore said the problem was identified in a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) report that found “a lot of water coming downstream and a lot of erosion under this bridge.” Moore said TxDOT didn’t recommend performing the work, but instead, “we got the ‘You will fix this’,” Moore stated.

Kaufman County Grand Jury returned 33 indictments March 27. Indictment information obtained from the District Clerk’s office does not include ages or addresses of defendants.
