Scurry-Rosser varsity boys got a tough win over Grand Saline, 65-63, on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
The Wildcats grabbed a 22-10 lead in the first quarter, which Grand Saline trimmed to 39-33 at the half and 48-47 through three quarters.
Gunner Hill hit two free throws with 10 seconds left for the winning margin.
Jade Whittington scored 19 points, Hill 12, Hunter Word 11, and Nathan Stewart and Austin Babovec eight each.
It was a tough game and a good battle,” said Coach James Hill. “Our kids just kept working. I’m really happy for our team on getting this victory.”
The boys won two and lost two at Edgewood tournament and are 5-2 on the season.
Scurry-Rosser lost to Bullard 49-42. Hill scored nine points on three 3-pointers, Whittington and Stewart seven each and Jack Bussey six.
The Wildcats defeated Hooks 45-30. Whittington put in 16, Word 14 with three 3-pointers and Jon Tillett nine.
Chapel Hill edged the Wildcats 50-47. Whittington had 19, Tillett and Hill seven each, Bussey six and Stewart five.
Scurry-Rosser ended the weekend with a 55-48 win over Sunnyvale. Whittington hit five 3-pointers on his way to 23 points. Carson Thomas added 10, Word eight and Jacob Holbrook and Hill six each.
