Scurry-Rosser High School senior Atleigh Swann signed a scholarship letter of intent to be a member of the track and field team at Dallas Baptist University. The signing took place on Jan. 20 at Scurry-Rosser High School.
As a junior, Swann had a special season. Swann’s top performances last season were as follows:
*District 18-3A Meet high jump champion.
*Area Meet high jump champion.
*Swann finished third in the high jump at the Class 3A Region III Meet. This performance was good enough to earn her a trip to the UIL State Track and Field Meet as the state meet wild card.
*She finished eighth in the high jump at the state meet.
Swann says a major reason for her success has been her coaches pushing her to be the best. Also, her family’s support through the years has been instrumental as well.
Success in track and field is nothing new for the Swann family. Atleigh’s older brother Bristol was a two-time state meet qualifier in the high jump during his high school years. Also, Atleigh’s dad was a state meet qualifier all four years of his high school career.
At Dallas Baptist, Swann plans to major in psychology.
