Kaufman Lady Lions started the week with a two-point overtime loss to Wills Point and rallied to win two games in the Wills Point tournament, avenging the loss to the host team.

The two teams battled to a 31-all tie in regulation last Tuesday, with Wills Point pulling it out 38-36 in the overtime period.

Kaufman trailed 10-8 after the first quarter and 22-19 at the half but edged ahead 22-19 after three periods.

The Lady Lions converted 3-of-6 free throws in the extra period.

Kayla Sellers scored 15 points, Lexi Wrenn eight, Kylee Sisson six and Kyla West five.

Kaufman opened the tournament on Thursday with a loss to Trinity Christian, 58-52.

The Lady Lions battled in the first half, trailing 16-15 after the first quarter and 26-25 at the half.

But Trinity Christian pulled away with a 22-12 third quarter.

Kayla Sellers scored 23 points, Wrenn nine, Sisson seven, Jasmine Sellers five and West four.

That put Kaufman in the consolation bracket, facing Tatum on Friday.

Kaufman fell behind 12-4 in the first quarter but battled back to tie it at 18 at halftime. It was still knotted at 24 through three quarters, and the Lady Lions pulled it out 33-30.

Sisson had 13 points, Wren and Kayla Sellers eight each and West four.

Next up was Roosevelt later in the day, with Kaufman falling 33-28.

The defensive struggle had Kaufman leading 8-3 after the first quarter, 14-11 at halftime and 23-17 after three quarters

Roosevelt’s top scorer put in 14 of her 26 points in the fourth period, while the Lady Lions managed only five.

Sisson had seven points, Kayla Sellers five, and with four each Wrenn, Jasmine Sellers and West.

In the rematch with Wills Point, Kaufman led 8-6 after one period, 13-9 after two and 23-22 after three.

The Lady Lions went to the free throw line 17 times in the fourth quarter, converting 10 to get the win 37-27. Wills Point was 5-13 at the line.

Kayla Sellers put in 15 points, Jasmine Sellers eight, West seven and Kaylee Morrow four.

The Lady Lions will be at the Edgewood Tournament this week and open district play Tuesday, Dec. 11, hosting Terrell.
