Scurry-Rosser volleyball team remains undefeated in district

The Scurry-Rosser varsity volleyball team made up of junior Chloe Sims, junior Abigail Joyner, junior Jillian Tillett, sophomore Becca Jestis, senior Kristin Bishop, junior Hannah Mote, sophomore Emily Story and sophomore Hannah Word and Ryley Taylor (not pictured) remain undefeated in district play and are currently ranked 14th in the state in 3A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

The Scurry-Rosser varsity volleyball team is continuing what has become a landmark season for the district as they head into their final four district games boasting a spotless 9-0 district record. Not once has their dominance even been challenged in district play; the team hasn’t even lost a single set.

The Texas Girls Coaches Association currently has the team ranked 14th in the state for Class 3A.

Senior Kristin Bishop is the current team leader with 128 kills in the first eight games of district play. Setter Becca Jestis has helped made this possible with 256 assists across those same eight games. Hannah Mote, Hannah Word and Kristin Bishop lead the back row with 185 digs between them. And according to head coach Taryn Mitchell, that’s just the beginning.

“Abigail Joyner, Jillian Tillett, Chloe Sims and Ryley Taylor have really stepped up and made their presence known as well this season,” Mitchell said. “They have contributed multiple kills, digs and serving aces to our games.”

Following yet another 3-0 victory over Palmer on Friday, only Malakoff, Mildred and Eustace stand between the Wildcats and an undefeated district season as the team marches toward its inevitable high profile appearance in the playoffs.
