Lions sink Pirates with late free throws

Posted: Thursday, January 16, 2014 12:00 am

With his team trailing by a point with 24 seconds left at Crandall in the fourth quarter in both teams’ district opener, Kaufman senior guard Jared Ellis made two free throws, then hit two more with a second remaining to seal a 45-42 Kaufman win last Friday.

“Earlier in the year, he was one of our most consistent free throw shooters,” said Kaufman head coach Charlie White. “It was good to see him respond because we didn’t have that many trips [to the free throw line] up to that point. But I had confidence in him because I know that he can shoot them.”
