The Kaufman Lady Lions softball team posted a 3-2 record at a tournament hosted by the Mesquite ISD on March 2 through March 4.
The results of the games that the team played in the tournament are as follows:
North Mesquite 10 Kaufman 5.
Kaufman 21 Terrell 2.
Frisco Liberty 4 Kaufman 2.
Kaufman 17 Arlington Sam Houston 0.
Kaufman 5 Grand Prairie 0.
In the North Mesquite game, notable hitters for Kaufman were Sadie Waters (two hits), Abeni Nava (two hits), Kyndal Garner (one hit on a two-run homer and two RBIs), Macie Johnson (one hit and one RBI), and Izzy Garnica (one hit).
In the Terrell game, key hitters for Kaufman were Brianna Cordero (three hits and one RBI), Kenzie Brito (two hits and two RBIs), Waters (two hits and two RBIs), Nava (two hits and two RBIs), Havannah Holmes (two hits including a homer and three RBIs), Johnson (one hit and one RBI), and Garner (one hit).
In the Frisco Liberty game, offensive highlights for Kaufman were produced by Waters (two hits), Brito (one hit and one RBI), Nava (one hit), and Pavin Penny (one hit).
Against Arlington Sam Houston, Kaufman was led offensively by Waters (two hits including a homer and four RBIs), Izzy Black (one hit), Nava one hit and one RBI), Penny (one hit), Holmes (one hit and one RBI), and Cordero (one hit).
Against Grand Prairie, top hitters for Kaufman were Garner (two hits), Johnson (two hits), Brito (one hit), Waters (one hit and one RBI), Nava (one hit), Holmes (one hit), and Garnica (one hit and one RBI).
Kaufman also played in two non-district game vs. Tyler Chapel Hill and Brownsboro on Feb. 28 and March 7 respectively. Both of these games were played at Kaufman High School. Kaufman defeated Chapel Hill by a count of 22-6. Then, they defeated Brownsboro by a count of 13-8.
In the Chapel Hill game, Kaufman scored five runs in the first inning, three in the second, two in the third, and 12 in the fourth on their way to a run rule victory.
The offensive stars for Kaufman in this game were Penny (four hits and three RBIs), Johnson (two hits), Cordero (two hits and two RBIs), Nava (two hits and two RBIs), Garner (one hit and two RBIs), Brito (two hits and two RBIs), Addyson Webb (one hit and one RBI), Garnica (two hits and one RBI), Holmes (two hits and one RBI), and Waters (one hit).
In the Brownsboro game, Kaufman scored three runs in the first inning, two in the third, four in the fourth, and four in the sixth to get the victory.
Kaufman’s key hitters in this game were Cordero (two hits and one RBI), Nava (one hit), Garner (three hits and five RBIs), Holmes (three hits and five RBIs), and Waters (one RBI).
After these games and results, Kaufman has a 12-7-1 overall record.
