Successful weekend

The Kaufman varsity Lions show off their third-place trophy from Midlothian Heritage.

The Kaufman Lions won four of five games over a three-day stretch last week to improve to 5-5 on the season.

The varsity team competed in the Midlothian Heritage tournament and brought home the third place trophy with a win Saturday over the hosts, 47-40.

Connor Smith was named to the All Tournament Team.

Kaufman opened with a 48-40 win over Corsicana last Thursday. Jamar McCray had 14 points and McKinley Sanders 12.

The 25th ranked team from College Station High School stopped the Lions 63-29 as McCray put in 12.

Kaufman came back Friday to beat Burleson 64-54. Dylan Gunter, Joseph McCray and Connor Smith each scored 12 points.

Later in the day the Lions got a 60-47 win over Waco Connally behind 23 from Smith who had five rebounds and four steals.

Joseph McCray had 10 points and 4 assists. Dylan Gunter had 10 rebounds.

Against Heritage on Saturday, Connor Smith had 12 points; Daylon Dickerson had 8 points and 10 rebounds; and Bennie Brown had 8 points.

Kaufman got its first win of the season Nov. 20 against Athens, 59-53. The Lions have losses to Lakeview Centennial, Sachse, Argyle and Wylie East.
