The Kaufman Lady Lions were edged in a hard-fought district volleyball playoff Saturday.

Kaufman faced Lancaster, with the winner to secure the fourth and final playoff spot.

The two teams finished with 5-7 district records and split the season series.

Kaufman grabbed the early advantage, taking the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-21.

Lancaster rallied with a 25-10 win in the third set and evened the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth.

Lancaster took the fifth set and the match, 15-13.

Lancaster faced Red Oak in the bidistrict round.

Kaufman wrapped up the regular season facing Mesquite Poteet on Oct. 23, with a chance to grab fourth place.

The Lady Lions won the first set 25-23 but dropped the next three 25-14, 25-16, 25-21.
