Kaufman High School fishing team competes in season opener

Brianna Glasgow caught a 7.16 pound bass, which ended up being the third-largest bass caught in the entirety of the fishing team’s season opener in Palestine.

The 2019 season opener for the Texas High School Bass Association started for the Central Division at Lake Palestine on a hot and windy Saturday.

Nine Kaufman teams made up the 192 total teams competing for thousands of dollars in scholarships and prizes. With qualification for the postseason on every anglers mind, it was very important that doing well early in the tournament season was paramount.

The Kaufman High School Fishing Team had four of the nine teams competing finish in the top 25. Leading the way was Levi Gardner and Garron Kinney who finished in 11th place. The freshman team of Jason Makerney and Colton Evans was 14th. Last year’s Kaufman High School Angler of the Year, Brianna Glasgow and her partner Jaxen Perrin was 16th, plus Glasgow had the third place big bass of the contest with a 7.16 pound giant. 23rd place went to Ethan Thurston and Cooper Garrison. Kaufman finished third overall in the school division.
