Though the official high school cross country season was completed with the running of the state championships in early November, Kaufman runners continue to fine-tune their skills.
At the Nike South Regional Championships Saturday at the Woodlands, Christian Rivera placed 16th in the 5,000-meter men’s championship against a field of elite athletes from throughout the southern United States.
He turned in a time of 16:23.27. Winning time was 15:41.25 by Jarrett Kirk of Flower Mound.
In the Open Combined division, Jeb Williamson placed 49th in 17:07.06, Spencer Keith 62nd in 17:13.95, Edwin Olvera 316th in 18:16.98, Carlos Sanchez 452nd in 18:53.24, Jayson Tucker 660th in 20:02.32 and Ivan Flores 778th in 21:10.63.
Winning time was 16:12.12 with a field of 908 runners.
For the Lady Lions, Alondra Campa placed 59th in 20:56.03, Ellie Galan 83rd in 21:17.71, Amanda Rodriguez 176th in 22:08.39, Taylor Sandberg 208th in 22:31.81, Bianca Antuna 306th in 23:23.27, Jaira Garcia 308th in 23:23.43 and Marizit Puente 403rd in 24:16.53.
Winning time was 19:17.89 with a field of 577 runners.
