The Kaufman Lions won their two opening games in the Brownsboro tournament over the weekend and wound up in the third place game, where they were edged by a 12-1 Royse City team, 56-50.

Kaufman opened with a 57-52 win over Leander Glenn.

McKinley Sanders had 17 points and Dylan Gunter 16.

Next the Lions faced the host team and took a 57-45 win.

Jamar McCray had 15 points, Bennie Brown 12 and Daylon Dickerson had 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Lovejoy advanced to the championship with a 64-40 victory over the Lions. Sanders had 10 points.

He also scored 18 in the loss to Royse City.

The varsity’s overall record is 8-7.
