The Kaufman Lions tennis team performed very well in a tournament at Anna High School on Jan. 27. This tournament started the 2023 spring season for the Kaufman tennis team.
There were 16 schools at this tournament including among others San Antonio Brennan, Gatesville, Denison, and Texarkana Pleasant Grove. There were seven current state ranked Class 4A teams at this tournament.
Top performers for the Kaufman tennis team at the Anna tournament were as follows:
Eli Frosch and Kayden Lengacher-- won the boys doubles “A” division title as the number one seeded team. To win the title, they defeated teams from Anna High School (6-3 and 6-2), Wills Point High School (7-5 and 6-4), and Wichita Falls High School (6-1 and 6-2). Note: During this Anna tournament, Frosch won the 200th match of his high school tennis career. He is the first male tennis player in KHS history to reach this milestone. Congratulations to Eli on this outstanding achievement.
David Harris and Connor Hubbert-- won the boys doubles “B” division title as the number one seeded team. To win the title, they won three matches while surrendering just five games.
Jackson Haynes-- second place finish in the boys singles “B” division. Haynes dominated the competition up until the finals.
Laney Sanders-- third place finish in the girls singles “A” division. In the first round of play, she upset the number three seeded player in her division.
Lance Ivie and Samantha Sipriano-- second place finish in the mixed doubles “B” division. They defeated teams from John Paul II High School and Texarkana Pleasant Grove high School to reach the finals.
Diego Santoyo and Natalie Martinez-- won the consolation title in the mixed doubles “B” division.
The Kaufman tennis team is next scheduled to play in the historic 287 Tournament which will be hosted by Ennis High School on Feb. 3.
