Charles Mayfield, 85, beloved husband, was called to his eternal resting place on Dec. 9, 2018. He entered this world on Nov. 20, 1933 in Kaufman, born to Clifton and Ollie Dora Mayfield. Charles married Reubine Glenn Mayfield on Jan. 27, 1968 in Mabank. Charles was born and raised in Kaufman County. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran. When he returned home he began farming and ranching and also worked for the Kaufman County commissioners. Charles had several jobs throughout his life, some of which were doing dozer work for Horace Stovall, custom farming and ranching, and working at the Handy Ranch. Charles had a love for several things, none of which were more important than loving his family and raising his children. He was a cattleman, a go-cart racer and loved gardening, always having a garden planted throughout his life. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love for hunting and fishing. He never missed a day of quail season. He was a member of the Young Farmers and Texas Cattle Ranchers Association. Charles was a devout Christian and was a member of the Ola Church of Christ. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Reubine Mayfield; sons, Robbin Sherrard and wife Kathy, Ronnie Sherrard and wife Lisa, Gary Sherrard and wife Caron, and Bobby Sherrard and wife Courtney; sisters, Vera Gunderson and husband Richard, and Linda Holland husband Bill; grandchildren, William, Crystal, Bradley, Brandon, Ashleigh, Tait, Ken’z, Kaycee and Kaily; 13 great-grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews. Charles will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services for Charles were held at the Ola Church of Christ Dec. 12, 2018 at 10 a.m. with interment following at Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton. Arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home.
