Bruce Carol Hammond was born on June 6th, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas. He died peacefully at his home in Terrell, Texas on July 16, 2019. He had previously been a long time resident of Post Oak Bend. He was 76 years old.
Bruce was proceeded in death by his parents Corinne and Malcolm Hammond of Ft. Worth, sister-in-law, Donna Ashcraft of Garland, and nephew-in-law, Kevin Ashcraft, of Mesquite.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Brenda Hammond, sons Harvey Hammond of Paris, Shawn Hammond and wife, Nancy of Austin, Bruce Hammond II also in the Austin area, stepson Matt Rhodes and wife, Kim of Royse City, and grandsons Thomas Hammond of Antioch CA., Nathan Rhodes and wife Amanda, of Forney, granddaughter Ryleigh Rhodes of Forney, brother Mike Hammond and wife, Carol of Austin, sisters-in-law, Tonya Benham and husband, Ronnie of Post Oak Bend and Julie Henderson and husband, Johnny of Terrell in addition to countless nieces and nephews, friends and extended family.
Bruce and his wife, Brenda were the original owners of the Victorian House Wedding Chapel. They both loved being such a part of so many beautiful couples starting their lives together.
Bruce was very creative, artistic, funny, loving, daring and devoted. He was also a hard worker who gave it his all, and there was nothing he would back down from.
Bruce was also a U.S. Marine. He was in the Vietnam War from 1960-1966, four years in the Marines and two years in the Marine Reserves. His rank was Lance Corporal, E-3. His title was “Anti-tank Assaultman.” Bruce had earned several awards while in the service: Pistol Sharpshooter’s Badge, .45 Caliber; Rifle Expert Badge, .30 Caliber M-1; Good Conduct Medal, 1st and 2nd award.
