The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Dept. is seeking students for its Citizens’ Police Academy, which starts Tuesday, Sept. 25.

The course is free but does require a background check due to the sensitive nature of some of the information.

The academy will be held every Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. through Nov. 13.

The goal is to provide participants with a working knowledge of different departments within the sheriff’s office, as well as to dispel misconceptions and provide a platform for communication between law enforcement and the public.

The curriculum includes detention, patrol, investigations, crime scene and communications.
