First Presbyterian Church of Kaufman has become a community icon after standing erect for 170 years. Nearly 200 years of history would leave any building weathered. With the help of community member Bob Lloyd, the church is well on its way to seeing better days.
Lloyd, owner of Bob’s Roofing and Remodeling Inc., has taken on his most recent personal project - giving the First Presbyterian Church of Kaufman a well-deserved facelift. Lloyd is a long-time, personable member of the community, and anywhere he frequents, he is greeted with a smile and addressed on a first name basis. Lloyd has worked in roofing for 55 years and his Caddo Mills business has been running strong since 1996, providing services to the Kaufman area since 2001 – using his knowledge as a former adjuster to assist both home and commercial property owners to assure claims are paid correctly.
Through Lloyd’s god-fearing heart and love of old structures, he has taken on this passion project to help restore the church at no cost.
“One has to give back,” shared Lloyd. “I’ve worked in Kaufman County for over 20 years, and the church needs a facelift.”
The church is protected by the Texas Historic Commission, so while a full remodel is off the table, Lloyd and his team are in the process of changing out old wood panels and repainting the building. The completed update will include fresh-cut cedar planks and caulking. Plans also include the installation of Polaralum, his personally designed energy-saving product that will help the church regulate heating and cooling inside the facility.
Lloyd hopes that this much needed update will encourage more residents to flock to the church doors. With only one pastoral meeting per month, the congregation would thankfully welcome new members with open arms.
While there is no definite completion date, Lloyd and his team are taking their time to give this project the love it deserves and hope to have this project completed soon.
