Commissioners approve land sale to Kaufman Independent School District

Kaufman County commissioners Thursday approved the sale of 50.2 acres of land on South Houston Street to Kaufman Independent School District.

During a special meeting of the Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court, a motion was approved to sell the land just south of the existing high school to KISD for $18,000 per acre with a first right of refusal to the county should the school district choose to sell any of the land. The district plans to use the land for the construction of a high school.

    To the later post/you are getting off the subject a bit...the land value has gone up due to the new development that is so greatly appreciated by us as residents...development would not have come to Kaufman if it was not needed....as anywhere that has Wallmart the land value goes up...the county is due the higher price of the land value/we pay taxes to the county....the school district is seperate in their collection of taxpayer money...the land has gone up in value and the county should have gotten the higher amount,..they did not ...the school district has gotten a great deal....again Vrzalik was voting properly for the higher land value the county was owed ...

    Yes, I agree with lyonfan. Moreover, most of the taxpayers of Kaufman county are NOT pleased with the explosion of recent retail. Walmart, Whataburger, etc. We want a small town atmosphere with a Home town exemplary school system. If we need a broader tax base. Expand in manufacturing, medical and higher paying jobs!

    Sounds like you have a grudge against this commisioner...Vrzalik/consevative/ is watching over our taxpayer money...The truth is the land IS worth a lot more than the selling price...They are STEALING it for 18,000 acre... I had some highway property/small town/ that sold for 100 thousand an acre/not 18 thousand...yes the school will look good there/all he wanted was for the county to get the price it was worth...

    Pct 1 commissioner Vrzalik voted against selling this land to the Kaufman Independent School District? If I'm not mistaken the school district is in precinct 1. Kaufman has needed a new high school for at least ten years and this land seems the perfect place to put it. One of the trustees told me if they build at this location then they will not have to build any athletic facilities. This should save a large amount of money. I hope the voters will remember the commissioners vote against the land when he's running for reelection. I already know how i'm going to vote!
