Hmmm..I live about a mile from this track. It's an illegal track; no one is fooled; it's just too hard to catch the organizer just like its too hard to catch the drug cartel leaders. There is no doubt its a nuisance. The law has just not been able to catch any of the illegal activity that is taking place here. Lots of illegal aliens, lots of drunks, lots of drunk drivers, lots of vehicle violations, lots of traffic violations. Once you drive by on 243 on a Sunday evening and see the mile long line of cars trying to get in, you will know it's not a training facility, if you don't already know. If you still think its a training facility, then your on your way there to bet on the horses and get drunk like everyone else there. There is no doubt it needs to be shut down. It's a real nuisance to the people that live anywhere near it. It my only hope that some drunk will flip his cigarette and the whole place goes up in flames but only after all the horses trample the spectators fleeing the fire. Ha ha

Do you guys know what makes a racetrack illegal? The facility must be involved in collecting bets on these races ! The owners can host five million horse races as long as they do not involve themselves in any wagering!! Its like a closed poker game the host cannot bet but friendly bets are allowedbetween friends. This is Texas !!! Horse racing has been around since the alamo!!!

the gambling could take place in any venue. people could make bets on mud bog truck races , pee wee football , automobile drag racing. just because these training facilities attracts mexican people everyone assumesthere drug dealers. You people have a very narrow minded view of life and a little prejudice if you ask me. The training of these horses are as old a tradition in there culture as car racing is in ours. Please do your homework before judging others. These people are very hard working people with a expensive hobby just like most of you. They also bring there whole families to events like this, it is entertainment for the whole family.

Have they ever found the man that fled the scene? He could be hurt somewhere in the "bottoms" regardless he needs to be held accountable.

I went to that youtube video that was posted and it is OBVIOUSLY that is a race. You would have to be really dumb to not see that. I do have faith that our Sheriff department will put an end to this now that they are aware of the problem. I think they are already on it.

Well well it's sunday afternoon and normally by now there's hundreds of people at the so called horse training facility, so why is there not one dang person there today? Guess there is a correlation between the wreck and races after all!

Anyone that doesnt see the correlation between these two events is in denial. There is strength in numbers so if we all call the police whenever we see these people breaking the law by driving while intoxicated, speeding or even unsafe horse trailers (lights not working) they will eventually get tired of us complaining and will do something. We may end up saving a life next time. Sad it has come to that, we should be able to count on them to enforce the law!

People would not come all the way from Ft Worth like this boy did just to watch horses "train"...there are BIG jackpots to pull in crowds like that and you know it! It was not a coincidence that several vehicles were "all on that stretch of road late at night" like the DPS spokesman said. THEY WERE DRUNK WANNABE-COWBOY VATOS FROM THE CITY. Hundreds of people hang out at those races and DRINK DRINK DRINK then climb in their vehicles and drive through our neighborhoods! PEOPLE ARE GETTING FED UP AND DPS AND/OR THE SHERIFF NEED TO END THIS BEFORE A SIMILAR TRAGEDY HAPPENS AGAIN....AND AGAIN...AND AGAIN!!!

ok so this is a training facility that only seems to operate on sundays to mailny ppl from out of town and they also charge a fee at the gate so what are they charging the spectators for to see horses train come on ppl just admit what it is it is a horse track that ppl come to on sundays to bet on thier horses and as for the lone star park statement that is a lot different they are a legal track who has a license to sell beer to their patroms and have the right to refuse service to anyone if they are belived to be intoxicated it is sad that the young man passed at such a young age and yes as you stated on another post on another site you stated there is no choice to die that is correct but the person who was drinking and drive chose to drink and drive and this young man paid the ultimate price sad to say maybe something like this is what it is gonna take for this to be stopped all you have to do is go to the shell station on sunday afternoon and see all the trucks and trailers buying beer to go to this so called training facility so what ever it takes for you to sleep at nite you can call it a training facility all you want but the facts are it is a racing track that condones drinking and gambling which leads to violence and death so stopthis before it happens to another person

Ok here we go again about it being a training facility.so I guess it's a training facility that only opens on Sunday's to mainly Hispanics from all over the metroplex with no regard to our community also as for the drinking aspect Tru lone star park does allow drinking but at lone star but I can also be regulated a bar tender has the right to refuse service to anyone they feel is intoxicated so there is the different nothing is regulated here also if it is a training facility why do they charge 20 dollars a person toget in so I guess ppl come to spectate horses training. And not place bets lol get real admit it a problem or do what ever makes you happy and let's you sleep at note

Just take a ride out to CR 118 and down to the end of Travis Lane and you'll see the tracks. White pipe fence going down the length of the track with "no gambling" signs posted on the gate!Every sunday afternoon there are lots of horse trailers and drug dealer looking cars out on the roads.

There is one horse track in Ola just off of hwy 243 and one in Kaufman just off of FM 2727. It mainly draws people from south Dallas. Search Facebook for Carril Herradura to see all their "friends". I moved out of Dallas to get away from all the drugs and gangs, why does the sheriff's office continue to allow them to come out here and injure/kill our residents?

I have lived off of 2727 for 28 years and I never knew of any illegal horse races until now.

An 18 year old is dead, 3 kids still in the hospital. When innocent kids start getting hurt and killed it's a whole new ballgame. Any related illegal activity needs to be stopped ASAP. Even worse if sheriffs deputies are participating - excuse me, "working security" - for this crap.

People, please call the sheriff's office 972-932-4337, ask for the Criminal Investigative Division and tell them you don't want gambling, drugs, and unrestrained drinking and driving in your backyard.

Those illegal horse races have everything to do with this, they invite people with little regard for the law into our community and THIS is what happens. Whether the sheriff's office has a presence at the tracks or not, they DO NOT stop these people from drinking and driving. I pick up their beer cans out of my ditch every weekend. Don't tell me alcohol/drugs/anger over a lost bet didn't have something to do with this!!!

This tragic accident took the life of my brother in law. Its a shame that one drivers impatience led to the death of a innocent teenager and injuring a lot of other victims including himself, wether or not they were coming from the horse tracks or simply on the road traveling it could happen to anybody on those lonesome county roads. I pray they find the driver of the tahoe he was with and hope that they find out all the details to this horrible crash

Illegal racing or not or anything else for that matter, there will always be idiots who either drink and drive, drive fast or something to distract them from focusing on driving. I've lived on Hwy 243 in Ola for 20 years and in that time I can recall seeing more accidents and deaths than I have seen vehicles pulled over and ticketed for speeding and passing illegally. Now, just because I haven't seen it, doesn't mean it hasn't happened but I'd be interested in seeing the number of tickets giving on 243 between the city and 429 in the last 5 year. I saw this morning state troopers were patrolling the highway, something I've ever only seen once. Something needs to be done about the excessive speeding.

Agreed 100% Johnna. Can't tell you how many times I've had to call the sheriff's office about people driving recklessly on their way out of the illegal horse tracks both the one in Ola and the one on Travis Lane off of FM 2727. Sheriff's office acts like they care for about 5 minutes and then look the other way. Must be all the money they get from these people coming from Dallas and buying beer. Just wait till a gun fight breaks out between all the gang members that hang out at these tracks. They need to shut them down or they're going to run all the good citizens out of Kaufman County and be left with nothing but law breakers. Hopefully this latest incident will make Byrnes and Co. put this to an end once and for all.

What does the race tracks have to do with this accident? Even if they were coming from there the accident still would have occurred.

My heart goes out to all of the people in the accident. I live in the Ola community and Hwy. 243 is a very dangerous highway ! First Monday with July 4th made traffic extremely heavy. People drive TOO Fast and take risk passing other vehicles. It would be wise to make Hwy. 243 a 4 lane hwy. instead of 2 or at least make some turning lanes at 2727 & 2515. This area around the Ola store has grew in the number of people who live here in the last few years. The roads and driveways coming out onto the hwy. around the store make it a very dangerous spot if you are turing onto 103 or 2515. When you slow down to turn you are always in danger of getting hit from behind !!!

If the sheriff dept would do something about the illegal race tracks things like this could be avoided and families would not be torn apart
