With Kaufman County’s recent boom in population, the Kaufman Economic Development Council (KEDC) is working tirelessly to keep up with the needs of the city. In their January meeting, the KEDC discussed new businesses and revenue plans for the city.
On Jan. 10, the KEDC met in downtown Kaufman to discuss their 2022 recap and what is to come for 2023. The KEDC was eager to report a successful year over the course of 2022, covering 166 industrial leads over the course of the year. 55 of those leads were deemed actionable and met site parameters, while 12 were procured through internal channels.
During the meeting, the KEDC also discussed ongoing business attraction initiatives, which outlined some exciting ongoing projects in the city. While store fronts like Furniture-N-Cabinets have already added 28 new jobs, consumers and potential workers can be on the lookout for numerous opportunities in 2023. Current projects include Dallas’ Tony Collins Art relocating to the historic square, Jesse’s Fajitas and Ritas – a new Mexican restaurant opening in downtown, a Soulman’s BBQ, the South Pointe groundbreaking, and retailers and a hotel site at King’s Fort – expected to attract several new businesses.
But arguably, the most anticipated discussion of the evening was the location of the Rancher’s Wife Boutique. The Rancher’s Wife Boutique first opened in Terrell in 2013 and has since become a beloved local business in the community. So cherished in fact, that the boutique has accumulated nearly 30,000 followers on Instagram, 53,000 likes on Facebook, and half a million followers on TikTok. With three different locations, two of which reside in Terrell, the Rancher’s Wife is looking to open a new location and has chosen downtown Kaufman as their new home.
The KEDC approved The Rancher’s Wife Boutique to house the historic Daisy’s storefront in downtown Kaufman. The KEDC is focused on bringing more business to downtown Kaufman, filling vacated lots around the square.
