On May 4, FOX 4 News received emails from Crandall ISD parents and students regarding injuries via physical punishment. The photos emailed to FOX 4 depicted the hands of an eighth-grade girls athletics student whose hands had development blisters after doing bear crawls on an artificial turf field.
Three coaches were placed on administrative leave as a response to the reported injuries. Reports state that over 80 students were involved in the physical punishment and at least 10 students have filed complaints with the school.
The school intends to investigate the situation and learn how each coach was involved in the incident.
In a statement to FOX 4, Dr. AJ Murry, interim superintendent, shared the following. “We are extremely concerned and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the very best way to respond. We want our parents and community to be assured that our staff works hard every day to protect our students in the educational environment. Our student’s safety and well-being is a top priority, and we deeply regret when any student is injured at school.”
