Quick action Monday night by members of the Terrell Police Department resulted in the arrest of a suspect police believe was involved in a disturbance call and shooting death of a Cedar Hill man at a Terrell apartment complex, according to TPD Capt. A.D. Sansom.

Dead was Raymond Clyde Lampkin, 42, of Cedar Hill. He was shot multiple times through the windshield of the vehicle he was in, Sansom said.

At about 7:55 p.m. Monday Terrell police communications received a call of a disturbance with multiple shots fired and that one subject had been shot. The caller reported the location to be at 1300 S. Adelaide, The Brownstone Apartments, Sansom said

As information continued to come in a large group began gathering as officers responded, he said. Emergency Services and first responders were dispatched as well and Terrell officers were on scene in less than two minutes and immediately began requesting assistance for crowd control.

“Kaufman County Sheriff’s Deputies and Texas Highway Patrol Troopers immediately responded,” he said. “As the crime scene was established and the crowd was forced back from the scene, a sole victim was discovered inside a vehicle. He was deceased.”

The vehicle was a 2003 Maroon Lincoln four door.

“Witnesses identified the alleged shooter and he was quickly taken into custody by Terrell Police as he was still in the complex in the crowd, Sansom said. “He has been identified as Hubert Vaughn Thomas, 39 of Terrell.”

Thomas is in the custody of Terrell Police as the primary suspect. Just minutes later another subject was reported to be in the area of the 600 building at the apartment complex with a weapon.

The second suspect has been identified as Daron Bertram Knight.

“He was quickly located and taken into custody by on-scene officers,” Sansom said.

Knight is being charged with failure to identify or giving false or fictitious information and the unlicensed carrying of a weapon.

He remains a person of interest and his involvement remains under investigation late Monday night.

“He has active warrants for his arrest. He is not being named at this time but he was in possession of a firearm that has also been seized,” Sansom said. He remains in police custody during the preliminary investigation.

“There is one confirmed deceased victim, a 42-year-old male of Cedar Hill, “ Sansom said. The dead man’s next of Kin has not been notified.

About 9:32 p.m., a second officer assist was dispatched as there was a reported fight in the crowd and a large group was becoming unruly,” he said again Kaufman Sheriffs’ Deputies and Texas State Troopers responded.

“No additional arrests have been made and order has been restored at the complex,” Samson said. Crime scene technicians and criminal investigators remained on the scene late Monday night.
