The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals was scheduled to hear oral arguments today in the appeal of the capital murder case of Eric Williams.
Williams is serving on Texas Death Row following his conviction for the shooting death of Cynthia McLelland, who was murdered with her husband, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland.
Williams’ appeal attorneys filed a brief with the court in Austin on Monday asking that the judgment of the trial court be reversed for insufficient evidence for a capital murder conviction and seeking a not guilty finding or a new trial.
Williams is also accused in the murder of Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse in January 2013, two months before the McLellands.
