A new mayor and city council member were sworn in Monday during a Kaufman City Council meeting.
Mayor Jeff Jordan along with newly elected city council member Carl Stapp were sworn into their respective offices along with the re-elected council members Ryan Parker and Patty Patterson.
Judge Jon Burt swore in the elected officials.
Mayor Jordan’s transition into his new role should go easily, according to a city press release, since Jordan has been on the city council and is familiar with council business and knowledge of current city projects and status of city needs.
The press release goes on to say, “The staff and council look forward to working under Mayor Jordan’s leadership during this time of growth and hope you will congratulate him on his nomination.”
Councilman Charles Gillenwater was nominated to serve the remainder of Mayor Jordan’s council term, which will expire next year.
The swearing-in ceremony was “bitter sweet” according to the city’s release.
“We honored outgoing Mayor William Fortner, M.D. who has served as Mayor for eight years and provided positive, solid leadership for the Council as well as the City staff. We wish him well in whatever activities and path life takes him.”
The Kaufman City Council meets the fourth Monday of every month at 6 p.m., in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 209 S. Washington St.
