Kaufman County is one of the fastest growing communities in Texas, and with growth comes a need to expand law enforcement’s outreach. On Dec. 6, the county broke ground for a new sheriff’s substation in Forney.
The substation was approved by Kaufman voters in the 2019 facility bonds election. Not only will the new addition provide improved coverage for the west side of the county, but the facility will house classroom space for workspace development as part of the Forney ISD Career Education and Technology (CET) program. The substation will also offer law enforcement training opportunities.
The building is 9,780 square feet and is located just west of North Forney High School.
Speakers at the groundbreaking event included Kaufman County Judge Hal Richards, First Christian Church of Kaufman Minister Dave Hunt, Keith Bell Representative Cody Craig, Kaufman County Commissioner Skeet Phillips, Forney ISD Board President Greg Pharris, and Kaufman County Sheriff Bryan Beavers. Certificates from Bell and State Senator Ed Hall were also presented to the county.
“This building is going to be occupied by our criminal investigation division, our patrol division, and it’s really going to help the people over here to be able to communicate with the sheriff’s office without coming all the way to a central location of Kaufman,” Beavers said.
“It’s not just a building for our officers, but it’s also a learning facility that our district can use for the future — for learning law enforcement and for those pursuing criminal justice degrees,” said Pharris.
The land was donated by the Forney Independent School District. Gallagher Construction and HOK Architects designed and built the new facility.
