Kaufman County youth rodeo rider to compete in Vegas World Championship

Kaufman High Schooler Garrett Roffino will be competing in a national roping competition in Las Vegas next month.


Local rider Garrett Roffino has qualified to compete in tiedown roping at the Vegas Tuffest Jr. World Championshiop next month. 

Roffino, who is a junior at Kaufman High School, will be one of more than 400 contestants from 31 states and three Canadian provinces competing in the competition on Dec. 5 through Dec. 8 during the first weekend of the National Finals Rodeo (NFR).

“We held 34 qualifiers across the U.S. and Canada to give our rodeo youth an opportunity to make it to Vegas and win the $20,000 championship,” event organizer Sherrylynn Johnson said.

In total, $650,000 in cash prizes will be up for grabs in addition to saddles, rope cans, buckles and championship rings.

The events will start at 7:45 a.m. each morning at Horseman’s Park in Vegas. The event will also be webcast live at johnsonsportsonline.com
