The state ranked Lovejoy Leopards baseball team won their bi-district playoff series two games to none over the Crandall Pirates on May 4 and May 5 at Crandall High School and Lovejoy High School respectively.
The results of the games in this series were as follows.
Game one: Lovejoy 4 Crandall 0.
Game two: Lovejoy 15 Crandall 4.
In the first game, Lovejoy’s pitcher Logan Corley was the star as he went the distance (seven full innings) while shutting out Crandall on just two hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. The two hits for Crandall in this game came from Dysen Hopkins (a single to left field in the first inning) and Adam Hernandez (a single to left field in the second inning).
In this game, Lovejoy’s offense produced two run frames in the third and seventh innings.
In the second game, Lovejoy’s offense came out swinging as they scored six runs in the first inning, six in the third, and three in the fifth to secure the victory.
All of the offensive highlights for Crandall in this game came in the fifth inning. That is when the Pirates scored four runs via a RBI bases loaded walk by Gauge Wickersham, a RBI bases loaded walk by Hopkins, a RBI single to left field by Landon Phillips, and a RBI single to center field by Hernandez.
With these results, Crandall finished their 2023 baseball season with a 12-18-2 overall record.
