A line of storms more reminiscent of springtime in Texas roared through North Texas and Kaufman County in the early morning hours of Monday, Jan. 2, spreading wind damage.
County Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie reported the most significant damage to the Cottonwood Community Center, which had its roof torn off.
He said the building is most likely destroyed and will have to be rebuilt.
There were a number of downed trees in the Cottonwood area, Howie said.
Damage was reported to the Central Baptist Church in Crandall, according to Crandall Police Chief Dean Winters, as well as shingles blown off of a few homes and mostly downed tree limbs.
Trinity Valley Electric Co-op reported 350 customers without power in the Scurry and Oak Grove areas, and power was restored by 7:20 a.m.
On social media numerous residents were reporting downed trees and tree limbs, trampolines blown away and other damage. Some small hail was also reported.
