BBQ extravaganza at the VFW
The VFW in Kaufman will host a three-meat barbecue extravaganza Friday from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday from noon until it’s gone, with ribs, brisket and chicken and all the fixings for a $10 donation. Plus Friday night shuffle board tournament. And RSVP for New Year’s Eve with Country Sue Karaoke, no cover charge, a great time with lots of food.
Cutting for Cancer
Cutting for Cancer will be held Saturday, Dec. 15 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at The Hair Chief Salon, 105 W. Mount Vernon St. in Mabank. Proceeds will help cover cancer treatment costs for Jennifer, a wife and mother of two who has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of ovarian cancer and lacks insurance. Eat Healthy Food Distribution
The monthly Helping Kaufman to Eat Healthy food distribution sponsored by Texas Health Kaufman and local organizations will be Saturday, Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. while supplies last at Texas Health Kaufman (in the back), 850 Ed Hall Dr., sponsored by Scurry-Rosser Student Council. For $7, receive a reusable bag with 15-20 healthy food items. No screening for the purchase.
This will be the final month for the program. The Kaufman Center has a monthly produce program, and information will be included in the December bag, or call The Center at 972-932-8866.
Diabetes group schedules program
Recipe Exchange and 2019 Planning Session will be the program for the Diabetes Support Group Saturday, Dec. 15 from 10-11 a.m. at Texas Health Kaufman, basement conference room. Jake E’s hosting
Jake E’s Riding Roundup will have its Christmas open house and parade Saturday, Dec. 15 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Two parades featuring Jake E’s riders will be held at noon and 2 p.m. Live nativity, facility tours and Christmas goodies will be featured at 10626 FM 429, Kaufman.

Santa at the Library
Santa Claus will be at the Kaufman County Library from 11-11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19. Santa will read the “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” and hand out candy. Punch and cookies will be served.
Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group meets every fourth Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. at the Riter C. Hulsey Public Library in Terrell, sponsored by the library and the Terrell Healthcare Center. Contact Angie West at 443-629-4654 for information.
Beginning Oct. 1, the 24/7 recycling drop off at the Environmental Co-op, 1100 Airport Road in Terrell, will be open only on Wednesday and Saturdays.
Program aimed at
Texas Health Kaufman hospital has initiated the Healthy Education Lifestyle Program (HELP) to assist uninsured residents with chronic disease management through lifestyle changes, as well as affordable health care.
Patients must be at least 18 years old and uninsured or under only Medicare Part A with one or more conditions: diabetes mellitus (Type A or B), hypertension, high cholesterol and/or congestive heart failure. To enroll or for information call 972-932-5238.
Energy assistance offered
For assistance with high heating and cooling bills and weatherization, apply online to the Greater East Texas Community Action Program at www.get-cap.org. Local office is at the Share Center in Terrell, 103 W. Jones St. Eligibility based on household income and high energy burden. No face to face appointment necessary.
Helping Angels of Kaufman County provides emergency financial aid, medications, nonperishable food pantry, clothing (provided by Angels Closet), utility bill assistance and temporary emergency shelter. It is located at 1400 S. Washington, Suite D., Kaufman, 972-932-2670, www.helping-angels.org.
Teen Book Club
The Kids of Appetite Teen Book Club for ages 14-18 meets the second Thursday of the month at 3:45 p.m. at the Kaufman County Library. Come for some delicious reads and treats. Home schoolers are welcome.
Tuesday Book Club
Tuesday Book Club meets at 2 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Kaufman County Library. Adult Cozy Coloring begins at 1 p.m. All supplies are provided. Light refreshments are served.
Friday Night Music
The Sunshiners Country Music Revue performs every Friday night from 7-9 at the Kaufman Senior Citizens Center, 112 S. Jackson St. No admission charge.

Monthly hiring events
The Terrell Workforce Center schedules hiring events on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. until noon at 109 Tejas Dr., Suite 300. Prospective employees should bring a resume and must be registered at WorkinTexas.com.
The Foundation Stone Group
The Foundation Stone Group is a 12-step recovery program for all struggles serving men and women.
