Kaufman’s Edwin Rivera and Kathryn Tucker earned medals at the UIL State Cross Country Meet on Nov. 6 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock, Texas.

Overall, Rivera finished third in the three-mile state meet race with a time of 15:48.0. By finishing in the top 15 at the UIL State Meet, Rivera, a talented junior, will be named All-State by the Cross-Country Coaches Association of Texas. 

Tucker, a freshman sensation this season, finished eighth in the two-mile state meet race with a time of 11:37.9. Tucker will also be named All State by the Cross-Country Coaches Association of Texas.

In the team standings, Kaufman finished seventh in both the 4A girls and 4A boys divisions at the UIL State Meet. 

It should be noted that the Kaufman cross country teams are regular participants at the UIL State Meet. This was the 12th time in the last 13 seasons that the Lion men have qualified to the UIL State Meet. For the Lady Lions, this was their seventh trip in the last nine seasons to the UIL State Meet.

Other notable performances for the Kaufman men at the state cross country meet were turned in by the following runners:

Yahir Flores: 54th place overall with a time of 17:05.2.

Adan Gutierrez: 76th place overall with a time of 17:21.4.

James Rayas, Edward Rivera, Nicholas Lopez, and Pierce Drake also ran for the Kaufman team at the state meet.

Other noteworthy performances for the Lady Lions at the state cross country meet were turned in by the following runners:

Barbara Ruiz: 37th place overall with a time of 12:25.1.

Joselyne Sanchez: 48th place overall with a time of 12:33.7.

Madison Thurston, Kadence Wolfe, Maribel Tapia, and Molly Burleson also ran for the Kaufman team at the state meet.
