The Kaufman High School Roaring Lion Band received top marks from all the judges last week in the annual UIL concert and sight reading contest in Canton.

Coupled with the straight 1s the band received in the region marching contest last fall, the band earns the coveted sweepstakes trophy.

The band also received straight ones in both the concert and sight reading portions of last week’s competition.

According to Director John Mize, this marks 15 years in a row for the band to earn this honor.

The band performs pieces it has rehearsed in concert for the first part of the contest, then must play music that it has not rehearsed for the sight reading section.
