Free backpacks and lunches will be given away during the "Homeless and Housing Insecure Fair," starting Sept. 11.

The Center in Kaufman, Serenity Corner in Terrell and the Kaufman County Homeless Coalition are coming together to host a free meal and backpack giveaway in Terrell and Kaufman, as part of their “Homeless and Housing Insecure Fair.” The first event will be held in Terrell on Sept. 11, followed by an event in Kaufman held Sept. 19.

The Terrell event will be held at Serenity Corner, located at 212 South Rockwall st. Lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. The Kaufman giveaway will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m at The Center, located at 400 South Terrell Highway.

Participants are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing. If they do not have a mask, one will be provided. Those who have a fever or feel ill are asked to stay home. Both events will offer walk-up and drive-thru options.

Hosts of the giveaway aim to help those that experience housing instability, and also provide information to participants about other community organizations that can help connect them to community resources. For questions, contact The Center at 972-932-8866.
